About Council’s Plan for the JPD

Jenkintown Matters, April 26, 2024April 26, 2024

Council is floating the idea of outsourcing our police services. They tell us Jenkintown can no longer afford its own department. But is that true?

Here are the facts:

  • Council has not presented hard data to support this plan. Proponents have so far only guesstimated the cost.
  • Council deliberated payment of $20,000 to PR firm Bellevue Communications without public notice or input to manage the anticipated outrage.
  • Council will sacrifice the independence of our police department to cover their own financial mismanagement of the budget. This only kicks the problem down the road.
  • Council will lose control over this expense. There is no competitive bidding process. We must pay whatever told to pay and likely get less for our money.
  • Council has made a mess of the budget. Years of mismanagement has left them — and us — without a true picture of our finances.

The Jenkintown Community & the officers of the Jenkintown Police Department should NOT have to pay the price for the Boroughs’s financial mismanagement.

The Borough forces us to file Right to Know requests to research its finances when most information is right within their reach.

What else is Council covering up?

Join us in the fight to preserve our police department.

Join us in the fight to preserve our independence.

Make your voice heard!

Why file a Right to Know request?

June 25, 2024June 25, 2024

In an ideal world, all governmental documents (excepting privileged documents, such as those involving litigation or personnel issues) would be readily available to the public. Unfortunately, at least in the Borough of Jenkintown, this is not the case.
